Queuing in London

18 Jan

Just renewed my visa in London– three hours at a packed US embassy, one hour of it waiting outside in the rain in lines. The place itself is surrounded by barriers and concrete. There is a huge metal eagle on the roof of what looks like a very ugly, flat, 1970s high school. But it’s done and now i’m done in. That peculiar combination of fear and boredom, exacerbated by jetlag, that characterizes border crossings, airports, anything to do with forms and stamps. I feel I’ve breathed in air full of those emotions for many hours today. Time for a beer!!!
