My play Slow Falling Bird just opened in Brisbane, Australia!
I’m very happy about it because, although it’s been produced in the US, and in a small student context in Australia, this is the first public Aussie production in a city venue. This play deals with the detention in remote desert camps of Middle Eastern refugees in Australia–a form of indefinite detention that contravenes Australia’s own commitment to the Geneva Conventions on the Rights of the Refugee, and has also been viewed by the U.K. and the U.S as a kind of “pilot” prgram for managing undesireable immigrants. So…it means a lot to me that it happens in my own country. Surreal to be so far away though!
